Welcome 2021/22 !

Hello, and welcome to the Feminist Book Club Blog!

As our first post in the 2021/22 academic year, we want to take the chance to introduce our amazing new team of committee members, share with you our plans for the blog for the upcoming year, and also share some of the fun things we’ve already been up to here at FBC.

Over on our instagram (which, if you haven’t already, you should totally check out) we introduced our new committee in early July. We are super excited to get to work with all the continuing and new members to the committee, and have already been having exciting talks about the year to come. Your new committee members are…

Vice President – Louise Collins

Equality & Diversity Officer – Harpreet Panesar

To find out more about our new committee, head over to our instagram @ueafeministbookclub to see our ‘Meet the Committee’ posts, where you can find out what subjects we study and what our favourite books are!

FBC Meet the Committee Instagram post – July 7 2021

Once the new year officially starts we will be hosting elections to fill the posts of Health & Safety Officer and First Year Representative, so if you think you may be interested in joining our fab little group then keep an eye out for future posts on our socials.

Towards the end of July our wonderful Equality & Diversity Officer Harpreet shared a post on our instagram celebrating South Asian Heritage Month. The post featured all the ‘need to knows’ on SAHM and was a really insightful look into a not so frequently mentioned month of awareness. We aim to work on including more South Asian literature in our book picks for the upcoming year, so keep an eye out for our book votes over on our facebook members group.

One of the big days in the past month was, of course, A level results day. We were so excited to welcome all of the new UEA students who confirmed their places on August 10th and can’t wait to meet all of our new members. We hosted a Q&A on our instagram shortly after to take any and all questions our new, and returning, members had and overall had a great time hearing from you all and sharing all the fab things about FBC.

We would also like to take the time here to remind all returning and new members to head over to the UEA.su website and get your FBC membership bought for the new year. Without being a member we can’t keep you updated on all of our socials and events, as well as sharing exciting opportunities and conversations with you throughout the year. With the plans we have already for the next month, you definitely won’t want to miss out! You can buy a membership at anytime from our SU page – https://www.uea.su/opportunities/society/feministbookclub/

If you plan on joining us this year, then make sure to get involved in our members only Facebook group and our 2021/22 group chat. Here we discuss all things feminism, books and a whole lot more, including keeping you updated on upcoming events and plans. To become part of the group, reach out to us via our socials or contact Amy (our president) and we will get you added to the group – https://www.facebook.com/groups/1819702831580552/

When it comes to this blog, we are planning on changing it up a little bit from what it has been used for previously. We plan on using the blog as a platform to document what we as a Club get up to each month, sharing our highlights, current reads, events and more throughout each month. We will feature some of our favourite posts from our socials, share important information and stories from our Club and the wider Feminist and book worlds as well! We also hope to include some extra posts here and there as and when both our committee and our members wish to contribute, somewhat similar to how the blog has been used previously.

So, what’s next? We are looking forward to Welcome Week and the new year starting in September. We have a bunch of exciting events and socials planned and can’t wait to get back to in-person events, as well as continuing with our online socials too. We will be releasing information about what to expect from FBC during Welcome Week, and beyond, very soon over on our socials so make sure to follow, like and join if you haven’t done so already. We can also confirm that we will be at the Welcome Week Society’s Fair so make sure to come say hi and find out more about what we get up to here at FBC!

Love always,

Feminist Book Club 🙂
